Early Childhood Services Librarian (Full-time)

Under the general supervision of the Youth Services Manager, with expectation of strong independent judgment, contributes to the general operation of Youth Services and coordinates services to and for young children, including services to parents, teachers and other adults who work with young children. Contributes to direct services to the public through reference and readers’ advisory service and programming with special emphasis on young children. Is responsible for collection development in assigned area.

Primary duties include:

  • Provides complex reference and readers’ advisory service on regularly scheduled basis; explains, demonstrates and assists patrons in use of print and electronic resources and library equipment
  • Coordinates services to and for young children, including services to parents, teachers and other adults who work with young children; acts as liaison with daycare centers and preschools within the Library District; establishes contacts and pursues opportunities for partnering; develops programs and services of interest to students, teachers and caregivers; visits local schools on a regular basis 
  • Assists with collection development and management through selection and evaluation of physical and digital material as assigned 
  • Develops and implements programs and learning experiences for children with special emphasis on young children
  • Provides leadership, training and guidance to staff and the public with special emphasis on early childhood development and literacy  
  • May assume responsibility for the department in the absence of the Manager and Assistant Manager
  • Promotes the library by the practice of good public relations

Qualifications for Position:

  •  MLS from ALA-accredited institution
  •  One year experience working with children
  •  Early childhood education and/or literacy experience desirable Availability to work evenings and weekends
  •  Availability to work evenings and weekends

Starting rate is $22.51 per hour.  This position provided full-time benefits (vacation, holiday, and sick time).  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  Priority consideration will be given for applications received by September 14th.
