LIBRARY ASSISTANT / YOUTH SERVICES
(Part-time, 15-18 hours per week)

Geneva Public Library District seeks an energetic, collaborative individual to join our team as a part-time Library Assistant with Youth Services. We pride ourselves on connecting with our community to discover, inspire and grow and delivering service at the level of WOW! Under the general supervision of the Youth Services Manager, the Library Assistant provides direct service to the public through reference and readers’ advisory service for children birth – grade 8, and contributes to creating a positive environment and enthusiasm about the Library. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who uses technology confidently and routinely, has a passion for customer service and children’s literature, great attention to detail, and a drive to provide excellent learning opportunities for the community.

Primary duties include:
• Provision of basic reference and/or readers’ advisory service on a regularly scheduled basis at a busy public service desk; uses and instructs patrons on computers, downloading eBooks, emerging technologies, print and electronic resources and social media platforms; connects children with materials for educational and recreational needs
• Prepares for crafts, displays and programs
• Assists with collection development through evaluation of physical and digital material as assigned

Qualifications for Position:
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a team environment
• Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational skills; the ability to move from task to task
• The ability and interest to work with children
• LTA certificate or B.A./B.S., preferred
• 2 years library experience required
• Availability to work days, evenings and weekends

Starting salary is $17.38 per hour.

LIBRARY ASSISTANT / INFORMATION & READER SERVICES
(Part-time, 28 hours per week)

Geneva Public Library District seeks a passionate and proactive individual to join our team as a part-time library assistant, with a focus on home service and outreach. Under the general direction of the Information & Reader Services Manager, participates in the general operation of Information & Reader Services and schedules and oversees the delivery of library materials to residents unable to come to the library. We pride ourselves on connecting with our community to discover, inspire and grow and delivering service at the level of WOW! The successful candidate will be an outgoing team player who enjoys championing library services to external community members and contributes to creating a positive environment and enthusiasm about the Library.

Primary duties include:
• Assisting Outreach Librarian in implementing Home Service to community members unable to visit the library.
• Working closely with volunteers to schedule delivery of materials.
• Providing mobile library services to outreach facilities on a regularly scheduled basis.
• Providing of basic reference and readers’ advisory service.
• Using and instructing patrons on downloading eBooks, computers, emerging technologies, print and electronic resources and social media platforms at a busy public service desk.

Qualifications for Position:

• Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational skills; the ability to move from task to task
• The ability and interest to work with adults and special populations
• LTA certificate or B.A./B.S., preferred
• 1 year library experience required
• Availability to work days, evenings and weekends (Monday 9am-2pm, Tuesday 9am-5pm, Wednesday 9am-2pm, Thursday 4-9pm, Friday 1-6pm + one weekend rotation (once per month): Sat 9am-5pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm)

Starting salary is $17.38 per hour. This position receives Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) benefits and pro-rated paid time off (vacation, sick and holiday).
