HOW DO I BECOME A VOLUNTEER?

Click on a link below to download an application. After completing it, return it to any service desk. Volunteer applications are also available in the Youth Services, the Information and Reader Services and the Customer Services Departments.

  • ADULT APPLICATION (accepted anytime)
  • VOLUNTEEN APPLICATION (accepted according to the schedule below) Please note: Teens must complete a new application for each session.
  • A Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to set up an interview to discuss your interests, skills and schedule.

WHAT DO LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS DO?

Opportunities for Adults

Adult Volunteers

What: Adult volunteers will be paired with a Librarian in the Information and Reader Services Department to assist with preparing books to be discarded/recycled and other forms of collection maintenance. Volunteers will receive training to use the Library’s online catalog. The ability to push a loaded cart is required for some positions.
When: This position requires availability during the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Event Assistants

What: Assist at special events either during the program or behind the scenes.
When: Volunteers in this position will be notified of events on an as-needed basis.

Specialists

What: Do you have a special skill? Examples: Are you an expert in genealogy or writing? Do you speak another language or do translation services? Are you a sign language interpreter? Please share your talent with us!
When: Volunteers in this position will be scheduled on an as-needed basis.

Home Service Volunteers

What: The Library provides Home Service for residents of the Geneva Public Library District who are unable to come to the Library for 30 days or more and have no one to pick up Library materials for them. Home Service volunteers may be subject to a background check.
When: Home Service volunteers may make deliveries on a short or long term basis. Volunteers will be matched with recipients that match their schedule and time availability.

Friends of Geneva Public Library

What: The Friends of Geneva Public Library are a non-profit group dedicated to enhancing the Library with support, services and programs that will enrich the lives of residents of all ages. Information on how to volunteer with the Friends can be found on our Friends page.
When: The monthly meetings and books sorts are listed via the Events Calendar on our website.

Opportunities for Teens Entering Grades 6–12

Volunteens

What: Do you love the library? This is your opportunity to help staff make this library the special place it is. This fall, there are two different crews to which teens may apply, varying from program helpers to master organizers who will help keep us running!
When: Hours are variable depending on crew selection, and details are included on the application.
Volunteen Fall 2017 Session: The Fall session will be August 28 until December 9.

Opportunities for Teens Entering Grades 6–8

Library Squad

What: Want to make a difference at the library? Come share your ideas and earn volunteer hours while doing it! What would you like to see at the library? What do you like and what can we improve? We'll snack as we plan programs and decorations.
When: Library Squad meets the second Wednesday of every month from 5-6 p.m.

Opportunities for Teens Entering Grades 9–12

Teen Advisory Board

What: A way for teens to earn GIVE hours while also putting their stamp on the library and the community! Help develop programs, make your own volunteer opportunities, and shape teen services at the library.
When: Our group meets at 4:00 PM on the first Thursday of the month, and other times dependent on planned events and projects.
